Splash pool for kids

Looking for a campground in Louisiana that the whole family will enjoy?  We’ve profiled the top kid-friendly camping sites in the state.  From massive State parks to small, privately owned quiet campgrounds — you’ll find something that suits your family’s camping style.

Here are the top 9 campgrounds in the State of Louisiana for family camping in 2020.  Whether you are looking for a place to bring your RV, a private tent site with running water, a primitive campground for your whole group, or a cozy cabin – these campgrounds have it all!  Camping with the family doesn’t have to be stressful or boring for the kids!  There are many campgrounds that have all sorts of activities aimed to keep the whole family enjoying their vacation and experiencing quality family time together. (First time camping with young children?  Read here)

As parents ourselves, we know what’s important for a successful family camping trip.

  1. CLEAN BATHROOMS – so important for tent campers who rely on clean, well-maintained bathrooms and showers! Even if you have a bathroom with your RV, its essential to have nice bathrooms when you are out and about exploring the parks.

  2. KIDS’ AREAS & ACTIVITIES. While it isn’t essential to have organized activities for children, they are nice to have as an option.  In addition – playgrounds and kid-friendly hiking trails are a must.

  3. CAMPSITE PRIVACY. No one wants to drive a couple hours from home with all their camping gear to just be crammed into a campsite practically on top of their neighbors!  We know we aren’t exactly back-packing into the wilderness, but bonus points for those campsites who have a measure of privacy so you can at least pretend you are miles away from society. Bogue Chitto State Park Map

Bogue Chitto is possibly best known for tubing, where you can float down the slow moving river through canyons, natural beaches, and through low-hanging trees.  Horseback riders will be delighted with the miles of dedicated equestrian trails throughout the park, with spectacular ones through the cypress and tupelo swamps. In addition, there are mountain biking trails, hiking trails, and boardwalks.

One of the more popular attractions at the park is Fricke’s Cave (which actually is more of a gorge than a cave).  It has sandstone spires created from water erosion.  These are very delicate geological features so the park built safe walking trails on boardwalks so visitors can view the spires without accidently harming them.
